Why Scareware is dangerous?

Imagine an average computer user, downloading a software that claims to protect their computer against all the nasty and evil viruses out there. However, when the program is used to scan for viruses, that may not even be present in your system. Now to clean up these so called viruses in your system, the user is asked to pay a fee for a full version of the software. The victim, scared of what these viruses may do to his computer, gives in and pays the fee to the company. Money isn’t the only driver for the perpetrator, sometimes spyware is installed with the said software. Some of these come in the guise of system Security. Anti-Virus 2010, and Registry Cleaner XP.Hopefully, after reading this, you will be prepared the next time you see a fix-it-all software with a halo over its head.
